it’s black history month: guess its time to act like we appreciate black people

so it’s black history month and i could care less.  and not because its a slap in the face to black folks since february is the shortest month of the year.  naw its not that.  and its not because people should learn about the contributions of black folks everyday.  not that either.  i just don’t give a fuck.

i don’t designate a certain time of the year to glorify the civil rights movements or the end of physical slavery, nor do i appreciate one month designated to study the richest history of all.  people attribute black history month to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass and W.E.B DuBois just to name a few, but no-one focuses on making new history, on fighting this “system of oppression” that is the same fucking system that was lynching and enslaving black folks; it’s just a more updated version.

in my opinion there is nothing to celebrate because nothing was accomplished.  we’re still in the same predicament we were in 50 years ago. . . if not worse.
